The Master's program Sustainable Management of Aquatic Ecosystems prepares highly qualified ecologists with competencies vital for the blue economy sector. It focuses on marine and coastal environments, their biological resources, and sustainable management practices. A key emphasis is placed on the Baltic Sea ecosystem, which faces significant challenges due to human activities.
Students gain hands-on knowledge of aquatic ecosystems, sustainable use of biological resources, and aquaculture. The program encourages an interdisciplinary approach, integrating ecological, social, economic, and legal aspects of marine and coastal environments. Topics include climate change adaptation, water pollution mitigation, and aquaculture as a solution to food security in the face of global population growth.
A unique feature of the program is its flexibility—lectures are compatible with employment—and instruction is provided by practicing scientists with international experience in the Mediterranean, Arctic, and Baltic regions. Students can specialize in areas such as Coastal Zone Management, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Functioning, GIS and Spatial Analysis, Blue Economy, or Aquaculture Technologies.
